Former body builder gets the book thrown at him
The New Jersey Attorney General's office issued a statement late last week on further charges his officials are pressing against Vincent 'Big Vince' Filipelli, a former body-building champion currently in detention at the Philadelphia Federal Detention Center and awaiting sentencing on a federal extortion-related charge associated with online betting operations.
The charges relate to taking bets over the Internet through an unidentified website, specifically conspiracy to promote gambling, promoting gambling and possession of gambling records.
It is understood that additional charges of possession of steroids and money laundering are also contemplated.
The charges are rooted in the alleged operation of an online sports betting website that officials claim Filipelli ran for several years. A fellow accused named in the case is 52 year old William Motto, who was previously charged with involvement in the online betting operation and has already pleaded guilty to promoting gambling.
It has been alleged that last year in Philadelphia, Filipelli threatened an undercover agent over a gambling debt incurred at the sports betting website. Filipelli has so far pleaded guilty to interstate travel in aid of racketeering, which could land him in prison for up to 20 years, excluding the new charges. |
