Proving once again that poker pulls players, there were almost 11 000 entrants in last Sunday's tournament

Continuing to break online poker records in its regular Sunday tournaments, Poker Stars.com achieved a stunning new all-time attendance record this weekend when 10 894 players pitched for its big Sunday Millions event.

Just under a day after dishing out $100 000 and $10 000 bonanzas to celebrate the dealing of its 10 billionth hand, which saw a record 100 000 players online the world's largest online poker site continued to pack 'em in.

The rewards were significant, as the huge turnout generated a prize-pool of $2.4 million - beating a previous record back in March this year, when 10 500 players mustered online to mark the first anniversary of the Sunday Millions phenomenon.

To flag that 10 billionth hand, Poker Stars management boosted the prize-pool with an additional $250 000, further whetting the appetite of an entry field that took 11 hours to play down to one big winner.

That winner was an online poker player from Newark, New Jersey using the handle "tanbai" who picked up a paycheck that was worth  $187 000 for his efforts. And according to the Official Poker Rankings.com site, the player had never finished higher than 8th in a Poker Stars tournament!

Online Poker Enjoys Big Money Weekend

Monday, January 21, 2008 mgowanbo.cc

Major online poker websites continue to attract record numbers of tournament players

Last weekends big-name regular tournaments continued to pack 'em in, with major action occurring across the Internet on Sunday, and major companies like Full Tilt, Poker Stars and Party Poker all passing pre-tournament guarantees. And one player at Full Tilt's One Million Dollar Guaranteed won a significant $206 000.

Poker Stars Sunday Million continued to dominate the weekend tournament scene with a field of 7 520 entrants which resulted in a prize-pool of $1.504 million - sufficient to put 1 080 players in the money bubble and present a winner's prize estimated at $212 000 if not split by player agreement, which is what happened in a three split at the conclusion.

Over at Full Tilt the regular $1 million Guaranteed tourney had a higher buy-in at $500+35, but that didn't deter poker players massing, with a starter field of 2 252 generating a prize-pool of $1 126 000 which made possible a winner's purse of $206 564 and change, and a cash list that extended to 351 players.

Party Poker's $300 000 Guaranteed pulled in 1 735 players, delivering a $347 600 prize-pool and a potential first prize of $67 665, which in the event was split by player agreement.
